A Neo Black Movement Dictionary

Like most secret cults, confraternities and similar groups, members of NBM aka Black Axe cult ( for a general introduction see https://najuju.wordpress.com/2014/05/09/what-is-the-neo-black-movement-of-africa-aka-black-axe-confraternity/ ) use special items and expressions to describe themselves and others, the structures within the group and so on. Some of the following terms are part of the “coded” language used within NBM for secrecy purposes, among other reasons. Outsiders (“jus”) are not supposed to understand what they are talking about.

375125_542493282455543_1292889709_n

  • Axe: The axe is the symbol of NBM. Because of its shape it is also referred to as “7”. The often used code “147” means “one for seven” = one for (Black) Axe/NBM. Axes are also part of the regalia worn by members.
  • Black Axe: This is a metamorphosis of the first name of the movement “Black Barracards”. The name was changed to “Black Axe” then finally Neo Black Movement, even though it remains the inofficial name. “Black Axe” also became the name of the magazine published by the movement. This again was changed to “Uhuru Magazine” later.
  • Axeman: Members of NBM refer to each other as axemen (or alternatively lord, bam, amigos, wise/strong men).
  • Lord: a graduate member.
  • Aye: a campus member, also known as “Temple Aye”. Those are known for gang wars, cult killings and rape at Nigerian universities. The term “aye” is also used as a greeting among members. Aye is an abbreviation of “African Youth Empowerment”.
  • Blending/Bamming: initiation into the cult. Bam is also used as an expression of approval (“you bam”)
  • Jollification/Jolly: gathering of members (also for initiation), parties. There is talk about jus and virgins having been sacrificed at jollies.
  • LP (“Elpee”): Jolly song.
  • Ju/jew (name): someone who has not been initiated / real name.
  • Injew: member of a different cult group
  • Tingo/Bird: member of the Eiye confraternity (Airlords), the rival cult hated most by NBM
  • Baggers: member of the Buccaneers confraternity (Sealords), another rival cult of NBM
  • Strong name (SN): name given at initiation, “Aye/Lord” plus usually the name of an African freedom fighter, dictator or terrorist, for example “Lord Muammar Gadhaffi”. In all communications among members the strong name is used. See https://najuju.wordpress.com/2015/08/21/strong-names-in-nbm/
  • Clothing: Members of the confraternity have a uniform of sorts that consists of black, white and yellow clothing (black trousers, white shirt, yellow tie, yellow ribbon on cap) which symbolizes the following: Black signifies identification with the black race and the dignity thereof, white signifies peace and purity of mind and body, yellow signifies intellect. The color of the regalia depends on the rank of a member. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mqC0n8wzwg
  • Uhuru: alleged goal of NBM, meaning “freedom” in Swahili.
  • Egede: Originally used for the greeting with the clash of forearms, more recently also used for drums.
  • Dodorima: Dodorima in Igbo language refers to honesty, straightforwardness, intelligence, hard working, etc. It has become the culture of NBM members to say, “Dodorima/Dodos to you”. This entails praises and adoration given to a particular person based on something he did.
  • Orientation (OT): Knowledge about the “movement” or acquiring such knowledge. See https://truth147.wordpress.com/2015/07/29/nbm-orientation/
  • FM/Football Match: Refers to a punishment administered to members. It consists of an endurance test/pysical exercise.
  • Janet: Term used for punishment, especially beating with a cane or whip. According to NBM legend Janet was a girlfriend of one of the founders. She is said to have betrayed the “movement” and to have been beheaded for that reason like Charles Kokoma (see below). Also see “Disciplinary Standards https://najuju.wordpress.com/2014/11/02/constitution-and-disciplinary-standards-of-nbm/)
  • Kokoma: drink containing various ingredients and drugs such as weed, kola nut, zobo leaf, alligator pepper, tomtom, panadol. It is prepared by the Chief Priest and used at initiation of new members. An oath is sworn with Kokoma: should the initiated member ever betray NBM, Kokoma is thought to squeeze life out of him. NBM legend also has it that a certain Charles Kokoma was one of the founders of NBM but betrayed the “movement” and was then beheaded by the others (even though this name does not appear on the official list of founders). Therefore beheading is today seen as the appropriate punishment for one who betrays the “movement” and leaks its secrets.
  • Korofo (Krf): “the cult of the underground” (Yoruba religion). Korofo is often referred to in NBM and appears to be seen as a God of sorts (“may Korofo squeeze the life out of them” / “Korofo on guard”)
  • H.I.T. /play hit: Killing someone, mostly members of other confraternities
  • Perfect Circle: Part of NBM ceremonies.

perfect circle33

The following terms refer to offices and structures in NBM:

  • Zone: a local group of NBM. There are zones in Nigerian states and in many countries worldwide, often with subdivisions (see list below).
  • Temple (T): Nigerian university where new cult members are recruited (see list below).
  • Murder Temple: often falsely called Mother Temple. It means the Futa Jallon Temple, aka University of Benin. The term refers to the crisis that occurred at the birth on NBM at the said university, the murder of one of the founders who turned out to be a traitor (see below).
  • National Head (NH), Chief Priest (CP), Chairman, Chief Butcher, Ihaza, Eye, Crier are offices in NBM. See below for a description of their functions.
  • (National) Executive Council (NEXCO – includes the offices above) and (National) Council of Elders (NCOE – includes the COE chairman and seven or more “elders”, including the present head).

The same hierarchical structure exists on zonal and temple level.

People have better things to do than trying to look at those useless codes and OT twice.I blame the govt for not having dealt with you fools decisively long time ago.

  6. Robert Osas says:

I love this info, but is it a good idea to put such info on the internet?

    • najuju says:

I sincerely believe it is, Robert Osas. Why should a criminal organisation be allowed to commit their crimes in secrecy and impunity? And why should it not be allowed to the public to know who is causing trouble all around them and what is behind it? A real organisation or movement would not hesitate to be transparent about themselves. Why should a criminal organisation be given the right to hide if the contrary can be done?

  7. X-Rated says:

@Najuju, i am making a U-turn on my previous posts i wrote with anger. You must understand my point, i hate violence and i hate the killings going on. NBM started well with noble ideals and ideas until it became hijacked by some criminal minded individuals. I can go on and on but it may not yield any result for us. I want to make a polite and humble request to you as indeed you are the one with the yam and knife. I am an axeman and i was a dedicated one maintaining the ideals of true blackism which many may not understand until i stopped relating, i still stand true to my principles. Please take off the list of temples posted here, it is my only grievance with you, lets fight these menace with a better approach. As bad as NBM may be portrayed and as awful as some of its members are, just like a failed Nigeria, many of us believe a good and positive change will come. NBM has since started an aggressive de-axation exercise from the movement which i have witnessed several both locally and internationally. If you want to help in curbing the menace you will understand my point. -1- Unknown individuals can have access to these information, impersonate NBM and carry out heinous crimes yet everyone will blame NBM for it. We are facing difficult times in Nigeria where security is a problem. If you want to fight a bad system, you don’t fight it by revealing information that other criminals could have access to. I guess you probably didn’t consider that. -2- Anyone can claim to be an axe man from a particular temple which could be false, how do we know who is who now that the number has grown beyond proportion? You see you are not helping an already bad situation. Incase you don’t know, the boys carrying out this evil everyone talks about do not even know anything about NBM infact they call themselves Ayes not Axemen. Blending officially stopped in 1996 but these temples continued till 1999 before Obasanjo asked for renunciation, which many boys came out until in 2001 or 2002 when they started again. Between these break in time there was a disenfranchisement from the transformed NBM and the ‘Ayes’ who were still in their temples. Now blending entered the streets with miscreants joining because of numerous reasons like you had mentioned before, eg…political thuggery, land speculators, criminals, touts, even robbers, ogboni member fighting rivals, etc…so it is already a bad situation. The much that can be done is to fish out all these troublemakers impersonating NBM because they have a few codes. Yes another point that must be emphasized is that every organisation must have a “code” and i see nothing wrong with that. Why are people obsessed in knowing NBM codes, why is it important to them? NBM like other frat or cult had rivals and unnecessary enemies at that time so why should they not have a code to use while relating with themselves? All frats do! Like i stated before, one way of identifying a true member of NBM is by their temples, if you don’t know you don’t know. I would have preferred you post strong names than exposing names of temples, now anybody can claim a temple because he has the information on your blog, sure enough if that person attends an NBM function he will be detected because of the strict quiz method employed for all members. That same person like many others who have been detected in the past could use the codes to oppress and intimate unsuspecting individuals in the public. I have said enough! Take off the temple names and lets face the core of the problem. Expose all the bad activities and even the names of criminals arrested to serve as a deterrent to others, i can support that. Thank you. X-Rated still on rage!

    • najuju says:

I possibly have a better idea, X-Rated (btw thanks for your threat-free and significantly more polite comment). I see you have a desire to say a whole lot about this matter, so why don’t you write a post for this blog and I’ll publish it under your alias with a short introduction from my side. I’m thinking it could be quite interesting for the readers for various reasons. You’ll understand that I won’t accept any delusional self-praise on here, also not the usual excuses about “bad eggs, however if you have something more innovative and self-critical for us, bring it on if you want. But: the temple list is staying on here. Members of NBM should just learn to behave in a way that they no longer need to hide behind coded bullshit. As long as that’s not the case… it’s all eyes on you.

      • X-Rated says:

I thought as much…Well maybe my contribution will help but you have not offered me anything in return. I made a simple and humble request but the same attitude i expected of your type has been displayed. Pride and ego leads no one anywhere. In today’s world its no longer who is right or who is wrong, rather it is what is right from what is wrong. You can keep your list if you so wish, somehow it will become an advantage i assure you. Maybe some axemen who lacked OT will pick it up from here and probably learn something new. What you have failed to realize is that you are dealing will a confraternity and codes will always change. Let me give you a simple hint about what young boys of my age decided about 20 years ago; we heard about Black Axe and we were so interested in it although quite ignorant of the dangers it posed at the time but curiosity made so many of us seek membership. During our first match, we were informed that we were jues preparing to join the Neo Black Movement, we were disappointed and wasn’t sure whether it was the same Black Axe we fantasized about we didn’t know whether Black Axe was ever related to NBM or maybe a decoy to initiate in another group, at least then Eiye and Buccaneers were canvassing with the name. NBM opened our eyes to so many things in life. I personally learnt true virtue and self esteem because i saw so much scarcity of it especially in my temple back then. I saw betrayal but i also saw brotherhood, i saw killings but i also saw healing, i saw madness but i also saw sanity, i saw so much power but in it was so much weakness. We made so many friends as well as enemies but 20 years later those enemies have even become better friends. An 18 year old boy who had no knowledge of life or the faintest understanding of anything but saw himself at the first true test of life whether to do what is right or stick with what was already wrong. NBM is already 38 years old, the founders were probably between 16 to 21. What could these children possibly know about confraternity? Over the years many have tried to reform this group into something more interesting and more encompassing but the certain nature of man always prevail. -A- Those benefiting from its ills -B- Those afraid of change and maybe, -C- Those that are not sure of what it may become. The older ones owe it as a responsibility to advice the younger ones but that has not happened. I have no emblem or relic of anything that represents NBM with me but i know so many young men still look up to me as some form of mentor and i can only reach to them by identifying with them in a positive way at least to preach the new gospel of peace to them. Maybe someday, maybe i don’t know but i believe some good change will come. Pyrates did it and it worked, NBM is next to follow the trend. NBM is no longer bother with smear or slander, they are used to it, its part of the calling to stand no matter how bad a situation is. We are not cowards or hypocrites at that is my own illusion, however you see it, it works for me. It is hard to continue relating with a group that is known for so much violence but again it is hard to abandon the same group you willingly joined. I love NBM based on the ideology i was indoctrinated in. Whether i was deceived at that time or not, it has helped me to become a better man, to me thats what counts. I will still knack my ‘egede’ anywhere and everywhere no matter who is around. I will still jolly with fellow axe men no matter how bad the situation is. I am a true man. The emancipation of the black race must start from somewhere, maybe an axe man will champion it or maybe someone inspired by the ideologies of the movement will. Just like the church, over the years so many believed, so many broke away and so many created new denominations but the church still remains. Well you are doing your thing but if you do it with a clear conscience (which i strongly doubt) kudos! If not well, its still the same circle of life, what goes around comes around. I know too well now after 20 years that no group or indoctrination can ever come to me to offer me any form of protection. No cult group can near me to offer me powers, or pour libations and make rubbish incantations because i have drank blood, eaten flesh and danced in the forest…lol, so najuju don’t worry i will not offer any threats because it doesn’t make sense but to take up a fight against NBM only would just because the big question on my mind. I will love to see you post things about the Vikings, BB, Maphites, Mafias, Eiye, Buccaneers, Pyrates,…etc, i think for now i will just keep replying you just to keep your blog busy. And for those lousy ayes who don’t know shit about what this blog is about they should stop posting their strong names and whatever here. Over and out.

      • najuju says:

Thanks again for your comment X-Rated, I’m starting to appreciate your contributions now that you’ve gotten over wanting to behead me 😉
I was thinking it would maybe be in YOUR interest to publish your own view on here, but no wahala, it was just an idea.
I found it particularly interesting to read about your motives to join. I’d say it’s like that in most cases. Forgive me if I call it a form of juvenile stupidity. Isn’t it all just about the desire to feel powerful in a world that all too often makes us feel powerless and helpless? Lets assume NBM really was a movement. Then it would certainly not recruit dumbass hormone-ridden immature minds but instead people who adhere to their ideology BEFORE joining. Furthermore there would be absolutely no need for all the secrecy and ceremonial nonsense which is 100% artificial and factually stupid anyway (as it was invented out of nothing by dumbass hormone-ridden immature minds. I don’t mean to insult anybody, but show me a young man of that age who is not a dumbass hormone-ridden immature mind…). Real movements are the total opposite of NBM.
So I wonder why shouldn’t it be possible to downgrade the whole thing to a normal fraternity. Keep your codes, keep your rituals and parties, but STOP claiming to be what you are not, and stop the crime. Everybody is calling for more OT when it comes to stopping the killing. What for? You won’t ever turn a bunch of hooligans and thugs or average male youths into an intellectual elite fighting for the good by means of hollow phrases. NEVER. As I said I believe the OT is just an artificial system of “beliefs” that are factually hollow. There is nothing behind it, it’s just inventions by a bunch of drunk youths. The “ideology” on the other hand is so outdated that it really serves no purpose at all in today’s world. I’d certainly agree if NBM was about fighting against racism. But that, too, lacks all credibility as long as 90% of members find it totally acceptable to steal from oyibo people while claiming to fight for a better understanding between the races. How many of you guys have ever made an effort to actually learn about other cultures and races in order to understand them? How many oyibos, South Americans, Asians etc. has the average axeman spoken to in order to understand what the differences and similarities are? Has any of you EVER analyzed how other societies function, and maybe tried to draw conclusions about why Naija is such a failed state in comparison? It’s easy to blame history, to blame the others, but the truth is way more complicated than that. And you know what, it’s even worse than that. While NBM claims to fight for the benefit of blacks, a fair number of members are actually doing their 419 on churches and NGOs in Africa, stealing from the oppressed they claim to fight for!! And maybe the worst of all… Claim: progress for Africa and Africans, against oppression, blabla – Reality: rigging elections, contract killings etc., thus perpetuating the rotten political system that oppresses millions and millions of Africans. You must be kidding me. Doesn’t anybody even SEE these sick contradictions?!??
So to my understanding all the ideological talk is total bullshit. It never was and never will be a movement. So why claim to be one? Nobody would have a problem with an eccentric but peaceful fraternity. They exist elsewhere too, and they don’t go around killing each other for no reason. They don’t rig elections. They don’t scam. They don’t export crime around the world.
I personally can’t understand why you would still have these feelings for NBM in spite of your own thoughts about it. Aren’t you ashamed to be associated with NBM as it is today and has been for many, many years – a deeply criminal and unlawful group? Do you really have hope that this bunch of lies and bullshit can ever turn into something you could be proud of?

X rated boss I belive you and I will stand with you anytime but am not a member, looking for some one who will help me join

    • Caeser says:

X-rated you are right on this please remove the temple names

  8. X-Rated says:

Too many contradictions and too many delusions, i stated both before. A man has a choice in life, it shouldn’t be another man’s cup of tea. NBM as an organisation does not promote any of such things you claims. True enough a good number of their members are guilty of it including you. I have spoken of hypocrisy and so many other things i wish not mention again. You can’t promote hate and expect me to accept it. Meanwhile reduce the amount of “bullshit” and swearing you have been using in your last post. I didn’t want to behead in you the first place…lol at least i know better how to play the game. However deluded the mind is it can always be changed and corrected. I have said too much, i am not for or against anything anymore, i am just a man searching for a path to so many things worth living for. NBM may have been a curve on the road or probably an indicator to my next destination, i really don’t know but i am always interested in where the road leads. For you its hate and more hate but for this group you resent so much they will eventually turn it around to their advantage i can assure you that. Maybe so day some time in no distant future you will be invited to make your submissions as to how the movement can really become the movement you think it should be. For now peace.

@najuju i really liked what you did here on this blog to be frank, am a proud member of this great movement based on my assessment on your reply’s of some comment other people has made and the way you answered them i really don’t know you obsession with NBM cause i don’t think NBM is the only cult per say like you called it we have over more then 50 today in our society. it a two way thing either you are once a member that chose not belong anymore or in one way or the other you have been hurt by AYES so please am begging like other people commented look at the good side of NBM not the bad side of it even our present government has it own flops pls najuju i really like you courage not every one can do what you did here but i know you really know what this great movement stands for.

    • najuju says:

Thanks for your contribution emmanuel. I really have nothing new to say about this
      – while you claim it is a great movement I am totally unable to see any “movement” and even less so the “great”. Feel free to provide evidence.
      – if you say there is a good side, also feel free to provide evidence. Unfortunately I am unaware of any.
      – if you say this NBM stands for something good: same here. Where is the proof? There is a huge contradiction between the noble propaganda phrases and reality. To me, action speaks louder than words, and NBM’s actions are far from great. If you look at various other posts on here it should become sufficiently clear why I say so.

It’s funny how much hatred you have for this great and unique movement. One question ! What prompted your research ?? I don’t even believe in your research crap ! You were obviously a member but was (de-axed) ex-communicated from the movement for a gross mis-conduct that’s why you’re saying all this ! If you claim you speak the truth why not come in the open and say so ! Stop wasting your time trying to tarnish the image of this movement cus the movement can NEVER stop ! It’s NBM all the way ! Stop trying to play politics , you can convince only illetrates , the thing is it would be easy for you to convince non-members well it’s okay cus believe me we don’t believe in population ! NBM is a school of thought ! I’m a proud Neo blackist
