Police parade two students, 10 others for cultism

Two students, 500 and 200 levels undergraduates of the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna were among 12 suspects paraded by the police in Niger State over their involvement in cult related activities.

The two suspects identified as Obisayo Mujeeb and Ogazi Christopher claimed to be Library and Information Technology Students of the institution the state police command said were members of Neo- Black Movement aka Black Axe.

Also arrested during the raid by the police is one Kingsley Eidaghese who confessed to newsmen that he is also a member of same cult group with the two FUT undergraduates but operates outside the university community.

Briefing newsmen on the activities of the suspected cult group, Niger state police commissioner, Emmanuel Olusola Amore said precisely in the early hours last Monday members of the public acting on a tip off alerted the police about the nocturnal meetings of the suspected cult group at a hideout somewhere around Bosso in Bosso local government council.

“On the strength of the information that some young persons suspected to be members of a cult assembled themselves at Rafi-Yashi, Maikunkele area of Bosso local government council and detectives from Maikunkele division were drafted to the scene and 10 persons were arrested”, the commissioner said.

According to Amore, “One Ogazi Christopher (male) from Benue state during interrogations confessed to be the leader of the Black Axe. The suspect equally claimed to be a 200 level student of FUT, Minna”.

The second suspect, 25 year old Obisayo Mujeeb, also confessed to the same crime of being a member of the same Black Axe confraternity and claimed to be a 500 level student of FUT, Minna.

Kingsley Eidaghese who was also arrested in connection with similar offence also confessed to be a member of same group but was quick to say that he does not operate within the FUT, Minna, the police commissioner also explained.

Police investigations however revealed that, prior to their arrests the group had gathered at the scene to strategize on how to initiate new members that will work along with the principal suspect in the campus.

Two locally made revolver Pistols, three 9 MM caliber, live ammunition, three Axes and three pairs of fraternity uniforms and insignia of the group were recovered from the suspects as exhibits, Amore further explained.

The state police commissioner who called on parents and guardians to beware of their wards’ companies said the case was still being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the command.
