The Lagos State Police Command has arrested about 39 cultists across the metropolis in the last three months.
The state Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni disclosed this while the command was parading the cultists in Ikeja, Lagos on Wednesday.
He also stated that four armed robbers were killed during the period while 37 suspected robbers were apprehended for various criminal operations by the police.
The command also paraded nine suspected kidnappers as it recovered different weapons like guns, machetes and vehicles from the suspected criminals.
Owoseni disclosed that the police got a tipoff that the cultists were to celebrate their anniversary on August 8 with the plan to wreak havoc on Lagos residents.
“All police divisions were put on notice leading to their arrest. “Some were arrested around Somolu area of Lagos and they confessed that they were members of Black Axe confraternity.
The suspects are Kunle Odeyemi, 27, Michael Orji, 20, Lekan Adekoya, 20, Silva Berbra, 30, Dare Moru, 27, Kelechi Ezeaka, 25, Ayobami Ahmed, 20, Saviour David, 20, and Dickson Alex, 25, Oguchukwu Obioha, 36, Moses Nefreke, 20, Udeme Samuel, 24, Onos Omovia, 19, Olayinka Agbadu, 35, Emeka Ezekiel 19.
One of the cultists, popularly known as Mosu, confessed that the gang were paid to kill prominent Lagosians, adding that they once killed one Elegushi who lived in Ajah area of the state.
He said that though the gang was a cultist group, they were paid to carry out some dastard crimes like killing and maiming people.
