Less than 48 hours after the arrest of 10 persons for cult related activities in the state, the Ogun State Police Command has again announced the arrest of 17 suspects for cult related activities in Ijebu-Igbo area of the State.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi disclosed that “the men were arrested in Four Road area of the town following a distress call sent by residents of the area that some hoodlums had invaded the area unleashing mayhem on innocent citizens. On receipt of the distress call, the DPO Ijebu Igbo Division, SP Agene James led teams of Policemen to the scene while reinforcement was also sent by the Area Commander, Ijebu-Ode and the activities of the hoodlums were successfully curtailed”.

He further stated that  “at the end of the operation, 17 suspects were arrested and weapons such as locally made guns, knife, charms as well as bags containing weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered from them. The Area Commander, ACP Funso Ajao who co-ordinated the operation is fully on ground to monitor the situation in order to prevent the hoodlums from regrouping”.

Findings revealed that two rival groups, the Eiye Confraternity and the Black Axe Confraternity engaged in a supremacy battle which led to the breakdown of law and order.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered that the suspects be transferred to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta for discrete investigation. He also appealed to members of the public to go about their business without fear of any harassment from any quarter as adequate security arrangement is on ground to ensure that residents of the state sleep with their two eyes closed.
